37 weeks 2 days

There was a point last week where i would have paid 1 million dollars to induce labor.
Luckily, the discomfort and anxiousness that caused all of that has dissipated and as of today (at 11am) i am ready to stick it out for the long haul and make it to my due date on December 18th.
Much of that feeling has to do with the fact that I got sick over the weekend - Lots of coughing, lots of nose blowing, lots of laying around like a bum hoping to feel better soon and i realized how awful it would be to start my shift as "mom" with this awful cold. I need to be well rested and i need at least a week more of being pregnant to accomplish this....oh yeah and i have a hair appointment scheduled on the 10th. It would be tragic if i had these roots in all of the pictures from my little girls first week of life!
So yeah i need highlights and good health.
lets just hope it doesn't take a week for these symptoms to disappear. Coughing your head off while being this humongous has a whole new set of ramifications that i don't intend to discuss but just know, it isn't fun.
In other news: we had a nice Thanksgiving. Pats brother was in town with his fiance from DC and it is always fun to have them here. We got lots of time in with family and friends -watching Notre Dame finally beat USC and eating like it was our job all weekend.
Pat and i did some holiday shopping on Black Friday. It was kind of worthless to get up early but it ended up working out. We got some good deals....but i have a feeling those same deals were available at 11am vs. 6am. Nonetheless, we are now the proud owners of a very very fancy new desktop Mac and an elliptical that BETTER allow me to morph back into a normal sized post-pregnant human being. I guess it stinks that there wont be any big surprises on Christmas morning, but Pat and i are all about the practicality and it made more sense to just get each other these things we needed ahead of the baby being here.
Hopefully the new comp will contribute to some renewed inspiration for blogging. Once every 2 weeks kind of sucks - i know.
So that's it for now. I am hopefully optimistic that i can make it to my due date ( i swear i am trying mom ;) )..... there has been a little bit of progress made towards having the baby though so we'll see how this all ends up. i guess i can't change what happens either way.
i definitely am beyond excited to meet little Ashlyn O'B though!!....whenever she decides to make her debut.

I made a comment last week that I wanted to have the baby at 37 weeks and I was SCOLDED for saying such a thing! I mean...I thought 37 weeks was perfectly safe! ugh, what do I know?
You are still looking good though, and I hope you feel better VERY SOON!
Practical- Dont I hear ya! I am just waiting to open up a breast pump xmas morning...but I am more hoping Andrew goes with a new camera we desperately need!

Momma, you look AMAZING! Hope you're feeling a bit better.. you're in the home stretch now! hopefully these last few weeks fly by and you'll be holding that sweet little girl in your arms in no time! once that babe hits your arms, it's like the ups and downs of pregnancy become a distant memory..i think that happens on purpose so that we're tricked into having more babies!! :)

Just keep this in mind Katie- the pregnancy isn't about you, it's about the health and well being of your daughter. So it's not really a choice! You HAVE to stay pregnant until Ashlyn is good and ready to come out.

My BFF from HS was induced at 39 weeks because she just couldn't take it anymore and her baby ended up in the NICU. She's pretty convinced he just wasn't ready and needed a few more days in the oven, and if she had just waited to go into labor naturally that he wouldn't have ended up there. (He had breathing problems- key note of babies born too early, even though he was "full term" at 39 weeks.)

Also, if you're bored or in the mood for a little visual trauma (LOL) take a look at "The Business of Being Born." It's a documentry by Rikki Lake and Abby Epstein and it's AWESOME. And a major turn off to pitocin/induction! It's on the on-demand NetFlix right now, or you can buy it for around $5 on sale on Amazon right now too.

Remember: Baby first, Katie second.

Side note, the baby who ended up in the NICU, was my friend's 4th baby so it wasn't her first rodeo either. (She has twins)

I like to keep the subject matter pretty light on here.
I don't take myself seriously....and i tend to write sarcastically and joke around.

So it is funny to me when people get all serious in the comments section.
I would hope that most of you reading are people that know me or at the very least you just happened across my blog and you continue to read because you appreciate my humor and sentiments....i like those folks.

I mean that is what blogging is for right? Entertainment....and finding people who like the same things you do??? Of course you come across conflicting opinions, that is natural, but when i read a blog and i think the person is annoying or superficial or judgemental....I stop reading. Because they didn't invite me in the first place...

And that is the polite thing to do.

So anyways, just know that at this very moment if you are reading my blog and you feel the need to lecture me via blogger comment implying that i am "putting myself first" and not remembering that the "baby is most important" after I have spent the last 39 weeks of my life completely enveloped in all things baby.

I just want you to know that my thoughts on your comments are simple : "EFF OFF"

They really have little to do with what I had written in the first place and it just seems to me that you wanted a soapbox and i would prefer that my blog not be the place for that.
..... Oh yeah and just because you really pissed me off with your thoughtless insinuations - I think you need to know that when you have never been 39 weeks pregnant and you have never had a child I could CARE LESS about "your feelings" on "my feelings" about pregnancy.

I am not selfish - you clearly don't know me.
And no one wants to be threatened with stories about the NICU when they are about to have a baby.

AND thats all I am going to say on that.
Stress isn't good for the baby - and I am already over it :)
kindly take your opinions elsewhere.
